Caminito Amigo has the honor to present legendary star performer, choreographer and Master Teacher Nelson Avila and his partner Madalyn Avila. Nelson will be sharing his milonguero moves, musicality, styles, wonderful footwork and technique in this 3-hour milonga workshop. Practica for the last hour. Reserve the date in your calendar.

About Unplugged

Unplugged recently opened in Wheaton. It's hardwood floors are perfect for tango and the decor is brand new. It has a full menu of good quality food and a full bar.

Parking & Metro

Unplugged is a block and half north of Wheaton Metro on the right side of Georgia Avenue. There is a parking lot in the back with a back patio entrance, a public parking lot one block away on Price & Fern Street and free street parking after 6 pm.

Nelson Avila and Madalyn Avila

Nelson Avila was a star in the original cast of Tango Argentino. Tango Argentino was the first Latin Show presented on Broadway and was twice nominated for Tony Awards for best musical, best choreography, and best costumes. He and his dance partner Nelida Rodriguez, already renowned throughout Latin America, rapidly became world famous.

The show played to rave reviews throughout Europe, Canada and Japan as well as 59 cities in the US. Audiences included the royal and the famous: Princess Diana, Jacqueline Kennedy, Ann Miller, Rita Moreno, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Rudolph Nureyev, Burt Reynolds, Kirk Douglas, Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro, Liza Minnelli, Katherine Hepburn, and Placido Domingo.

Nelson is a member of the fourth generation of the “Academia Nacional del Tango".

He has trained many professionals, actors and dancers including Rita Moreno, Sharon Stone, Linda Cristal, the Russian dancer Vasilev, Anthony Quinn and Robert Duvall.

Nelson starred in Forever Tango on Broadway in 2004 and traveled with the Company to Rome, Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia and Detroit.   In 2006, he danced with Che Tango one of the bestknown Tango companies in Buenos Aires.  

Now based in New York, Nelson continues to excite audiences, performing with his wife anddancepartner, Madalyn, a passionate tango, ballroom and social dancer, who brings elegance, charm and passion to their performances.

Nelson is renowned for his artistic contributions to the tango. He is an innovator of dance steps that are famous for their intricacy, beauty and elegance. Nelson has the strength of a great athlete and the beauty of line of a grand master of dance. He can perform all styles of Argentine dance from early folkloric dances to the latest tango nuevo. Some involve only rhythmic foot work; some the historical styles of the grand milongueros. Nelson has the artistic integrity, rhythmic precision, strength, carriage, elegance, musicality and originality to that put him at the pinnacle of his profession.

Wherever he goes in the world of tango today, Nelson Avila is revered as a true legend in his own time.

About Madalyn Avila

Enchanted by the passion, beauty, and sensuality of the Argentine Tango when the Broadway Show Tango Argentino ignited New York in 1985, Madalyn's passion and love for Argentine Tango began. With her dance partner and husband, the Legendary Broadway Argentine Tango Star Nelson Avila, they perform and teach Nelson’s Classic Argentine Tango for enthusiastic students and audiences in local shows, fund raisers and Tango exhibitions: New York, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Miami, Toronto and Buenos Aires.

Madalyn's dance and music life began at three years old, with studies and adventures learning Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and continued as an adult, to learn and master English and American Country Dance, Swing, Country Western, Waltz, Foxtrot, American Tango and most passionately Argentine Tango.  In 1988, she was granted a second Masters of Arts, from Columbia University-Teacher’s College, specializing in the Education of the Gifted and Talented. As an educator she is committed to sharing her love of social dance and empowering students to develop fine technique and to dance with joy and individuality of style.

Since 1995 she has been teaching group and private classes in Ballroom and Argentine Tango: Jubilee Multicultural Art Center, Warwick, NY; Dance Manhattan, New York, NY;  International Dance Studio, Maspeth, NY; AT&T New York Ballroom Dance Class for an enrichment program for personnel; Ricki Lake Show, trained couple in Waltz for television appearance; Fred Astaire Studios, Manhasset, NY; Great Neck School of Dance, Great Neck, NY; Philosophy Day School, Manhattan; Westbury Friends School, LI.

Notable Ballroom Performances include: Amerimusica, under the direction of Jacques d'Amboise, with the National Dance Institute, The Arcady Festival in Maine with the New York Ragtime Orchestra, and The Waldorf Astoria’s Gala Viennese Opera Ball.

From 2002 -2004 she worked with world class Ballet Master Momchil Mladenov and the American Ballet Russe to produce, create and perform in an original Ballet entitled Trilogy, incorporating Classical Ballet, Classic Odissi Dance and Argentine Tango. Madalyn and Nelson also produced, choreographed and performed in a wonderful dance event for the Floral Park Arts Council entitled An Evening of Dance.

Inspired by the work of the great Jazz Master Luigi and Nelson Avila's Tango Body Movement Technique, she has created an empowering dance exercise class entitled Jazz Tango.
