What is the origin of the name Caminito Amigo?

The name "CAMINITO AMIGO" comes from the poem, "CAMINITO" ("Little path") by  Gabino Coria Peñaloza.

"Caminito", a 1926 ode to the La Rioja Province, is a rural road to which sentimental memories were attached.

The poet refers to a beautiful young teacher with whom he falls in love and to her family who finds out about this relationship and takes the girl away from him. Years later he decided to go away.  For the last time he goes to the Little Path and composes the poem CAMINITO. Towards the end of the poem he says " Caminito amigo yo tambien me voy". "Caminito amigo I am leaving too".

In 1955, this poem inspired local artist Benito Quinquela Martín to restore the La Boca neighbourhood, then named LA CURVA, to the newly named neighbourhood of Caminito. In so doing an enduring city landmak was born.

The creator of the music Argentine tango composer Juan de Dios Filiberto Caminito is one of the best known Tangos in the world.
